Answer-first pages: a template that gets quoted
Most pages that fail AEO checks are good pages with the answer in the wrong place. Moving it up is usually a ten-minute edit.
The template
- Heading: the question, as a person would type it.
- First paragraph: the answer, in one or two sentences, with the key number or name in it.
- Second paragraph: the one caveat that matters.
- Then the detail: steps, comparison, examples, in short sections with their own headings.
- FAQ: the three follow-up questions, each with a two-sentence answer.
- Byline and date, visible and in the schema.
Before and after
Before
Choosing the right frame size is one of the most important decisions when buying a mountain bike. There are many factors to consider, and in this comprehensive guide we walk you through everything you need to know…
After
A 5′10″ (178 cm) rider usually fits a medium frame (17–18″, or 44–46 cm). Check standover height and reach before buying; brands differ by up to a size. Below: the size chart, how to measure, and what to do between sizes.
The second version can be quoted as it stands. The first cannot, and a reader in a hurry has learned nothing yet.
Where the answer usually hides
In our audits the answer is most often in the third or fourth paragraph, after a definition, a history and a “why this matters”. Keep those if you like; move them below the answer.
MonoRanks checks the first paragraph on the most important pages of each audit and, on WordPress, drafts an answer-first opening from the page’s own text for you to approve. See AEO readiness.

Common questions
Will answering first hurt reading time?
It shortens the visit of people who only wanted the answer and lengthens the visit of people who wanted the detail; both are the right outcome.
Does this work for product pages?
Yes, with the answer being what the product is and who it is for, in two sentences above the fold.
